There are two kinds of keys? Private and Public? How to request?

Post by corgrath »

Heya,

I am new here and cannot find any official documentation regarding this (maybe i missed it).

From what I can understand, there are two kinds of keys;

- A Public key that has IP regulated
- A private key that can be used 6000 times

I just want to test out the API, so maybe a Public key is better for me.

What are the exact limitations of a Public key and how can I request one?

Correct, elaborating further:

Both keys are issued together, and may return up to 20 results per query.

The public key is limited to 1000 queries per IP per month, meaning up to 20000 basic results or 10000 detailed results (1/3 and 1/6 the current database, respectively) and is recommended for testing.

The private key is a one-time use intended for a full database sync, returning up to 120000 basic results or 60000 detailed results.

Basically, you request access by posting to this API Requests subforum; as such, I've moved your post here to consolidate responses to it.
We're curious to see how new projects use TGDB API.
If you have a new public project, please provide a link to it so we can highlight cool new applications! 8-)
